Are you one of the people who made a resolution to be healthier this year? I was. One of the things that involves is exercising. When I got the chance to review a beginner's Pilates DVD, Get Ready for Pilates by Kathi Casey, I was excited. I have done Pilates in the past and have enjoyed the way it makes you feel after doing it.
Don't be fooled into thinking that because this is a beginner's dvd, it is going to be a breeze. Let me tell you, it is NOT. She explains everything to you because you are a beginner but it is still a workout. I was very sore after the first time I did this dvd and I'd be lying if I said that I was able to do everything she did. I had to modify many, many things!
The great thing about this dvd is that she tells you ways to modify the exercises if you are new to Pilates (or in my case, exercise period). Kathi does a great job of going through the positions and explaining everything- your body's positioning, how your breathing should be, etc. It is a workout! You will definitely feel the effects of this workout on your body.
And I can see how this workout can be done even if you are older or out of shape (again, describing myself). Pilates is about strengthening your muscles and stretching your body. It doesn't matter how strong you are to start with. I have noticed improvement already. I have been able to endure longer now that I was able to when I started. To me, that is a little victory.
