Changes I'd like to make this year

At the beginning of a new year, I think most people think about changes that they want to make. They reflect back on the past year or so and try to improve upon what they’ve done. One change that I want to make in my life is to try to take better care of myself. This includes eating better and coming up with some sort of exercise routine.

It has been fourteen months since I had my child. I cannot believe time has flown by so quickly! He used to be this adorable little baby that I could hold and cuddle. Now he is a sweet and busy fourteen month old who loves to explore his surroundings. He loves to play peek-a-boo, and do numerous adorable baby things. I want to take better care of myself for me as well as for him.

You see, I want to be able to teach him healthy eating habits and healthy exercise habits too. I mean, I’m not going to all of a sudden be able to start running marathons or anything but I want to get into better shape. I need an exercise routine that I can stick with. I know that when I do exercise, I always feel better after doing so. I get a burst of energy that helps to carry me through the day. However, I have a problem with sticking with it. This year, I want to start an exercise program and stick with it. I know that if I start now while I am young, I will likely have less health problems as I age.

Another thing that goes along with taking better care of myself is to eat better. One thing that I would always do before I became pregnant with my child was to skip out on breakfast. I would only wake up with enough time to take a shower and get dressed for work. Now, I wake up a little earlier and get a good breakfast in. I cannot tell a lie- there have been times where breakfast was a doughnut. I’m working on that too. I just know that it is important to start off the day with a good breakfast to get your metabolism working. Who doesn’t need to get their metabolism working right away?

My husband and I have started to incorporate fish into our diet. I don’t particularly care for fish except for a tuna fish sandwich. However, we have both decided to add it to our diet. It is so light and healthy.

So, although I have some work to do before I am where I want to be in life, I have at least started with some goals. I know I need to set small, reachable goals so that I can see successes. I think it has helped out tremendously just typing up this post so thanks for reading!

We all have a lot of work to do to take care of our families as well as ourselves. You are setting some wonderful goals! Oh - enjoy that little one as much as you can - because you barely blink and their grown! Hoping you have a wonderful 2011!

Thanks for your kind words. I love being a mommy and I know you are right about how fast they grow. It seems like just yesterday I was in the hospital looking forward to bringing him him and he's already 14 months! Time flies
